Drove to Lava Beds National Monument through Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges.
We went to adventure to the Skull Cave after the camp site was reserved. Ice was at the bottom of the cave.
At 1:00 pm we went to the ranger guided tour to the Catacombs Cave.
The Catacombs Cave was located in the Cave Loop area and the 6,900 ft (2.1 km) longest cave in Lava Beds.
It was really adventure and easily lost if you explored by yourself.
We strongly recommend to join the guided tour, it took just 2 hours and be used to the cave.
We had to take a light and better to ware a helmet. We used our cycling helmets and 5 search lights.
Someplace had high ceiling, someplace not.
Tour guide was a park ranger.
We survived from the hole.
Camp @ Indian Well $10.00. Our tents for tonight.

Camp Ground was huge, clean, and facilitated.
Dinner of the first camping night.
After the dinner, we went to Tule Lake Refuge for the wildlife watching. We saw many birds,
many mule deer. On the way back to the campground, we met with 3 mule deer they have beautiful antlers.

At the campground theater, slide show of the petroglyphs which was painted objects by the very old period from 2500 to 4500 years ago.
Petroplyph Point

2000/08/14 (Mon)

Joined to the Ranger Guided Hiking from 9 morning. Walking the field, Ranger explained about many plants. Dead end of the 0.4 mile hike, there was a Heppe Ice Cave which can walk through.

Photo from the hiking field. Background is one of a Butte.
We crossed the border to Oregon state to refill the gas, and got ice and lunch. Drove down to northeast of Lava Beds where petroglyph point. There were a lot of paintings (petroglyph) on the cliff of this hill.
We went for hiking on Captain Jacks Stronghold.
At almost end of the trail, we heard awful sounds "DO-N, DON" like thunder or cave was crashed. We asked to Ranger next day said that must be the drill in the force. What?

Camp @ Indian Well $10.00
Kids liked fire only for fun. Because of terrible sound by the wind, extra cover sheet was removed.
2nd camp dinner was curry. Rice was cooked okay by the 20 years old "Han Goo".

This panoramic picture is connected from 3 photos
After the dinner, we went again for wildlife watching. Full moon rise from Tule Lake. We saw a skunk closely.

Camping in Lava Beds was successfully over. Closing a tent was more difficult than opening.
Last cave in Lava Beds was Valentine Cave.
We were the only visitors in the cave. It was a real adventure. We stepped one by one with checking the rout to back.
